Why We Serve Kratom as Tea
· 2 min read · By BulaBula
Walk into a smoke shop and kratom shows up as powder in a tub, capsules in a bottle, or small extract shots by the register. Walk into BulaBula and it shows up in a cup. That's a deliberate choice, and it's worth explaining.
Tea is how kratom has always been taken
Kratom is the leaf of Mitragyna speciosa, a tree in the coffee family that grows across Southeast Asia. For generations, people there have chewed the fresh leaf or brewed the dried leaf into a tea, the same way you'd steep any other leaf.
We serve it the same way: dried leaf, brewed, strained and poured. Our Bula Brew is kratom tea and nothing else, in the strain you choose.
Why tea, specifically
- You can taste what you're drinking. Powder stirred into juice is a way to get it down. Tea is a drink you can sit with.
- It's easy to go slowly. A 12 oz cup, sipped over 15 or 20 minutes, is a gentler way to meet kratom than a shot knocked back at a counter. We'd rather you find your pace.
- It fits the room. We're a teahouse. A warm cup on a cold night, or an iced one in July, belongs on our tables in a way a capsule never would.
What's on the menu
Every kratom drink starts with the leaf and your strain choice: white for lift, green for balance, red for ease, or Bula Gold, our house mix of all three.
- Bula Brew: just the tea, in red, white or green.
- Bula Gold Tea: our house mix of all three.
- Kratom Tea Pitcher: 48 oz of any strain, for the table.
- BulaBula Special: a 12 oz Bula Gold Tea with a kava extract shot.
We also pour concentrated kava extract shots, but they're labeled "strong, go slow" for a reason. If it's your first visit, start with a Bula Brew and leave the extracts for another day.
The honest part
Kratom isn't risk-free. It can be habit-forming with frequent use, it can cause nausea or dizziness, and the FDA hasn't approved it for any medical use. We don't make health claims about it, we serve it only to guests 21 and over, and we'll always tell you what to expect before you order.
